Teaching Assistant (TA) – Electrical Power and Energy Systems

Scope & Purpose:
Under direct supervision of the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department and general supervision of the
Engineering Faculty, the TA provides supplemental support to small groups of students enrolled in the related
undergraduate tutorials and labs. Employees in this classification will develop, organize, and conduct teaching
materials, for both the theoretical and the practical parts of the course, with guidance/directions from the instructors
of the courses. The TA will also be assigned other administrative responsibilities such as grading, proctoring exams,
collecting samples for the courses’ portfolios, and coordinating with the lab engineers for the practical sessions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Prepares tutorial teaching materials on a weekly basis for related sections of the course
2. Prepares lab sheets, while coordinating with the relevant lab engineer
3. Conducts tutorials, labs, and perform simulations, as per the courses’ requirements
4. Assist in marking/grading assessment components, assigned by the course instructor
5. Maintains up-to-date records for samples of the graded assessments
6. Post teaching materials on the CMS/Portal on timely basis
7. Assign office hours for helping the students
8. Proctor quizzes and exams, as per the announced schedules
9. Participate in budget planning with the relevant team
10. Attends meetings as and when required
11. Undertakes other duties activities as assigned by the supervisor(s)
12. Help in supervising projects for senior students
13. Coordinate with Junior TAs, during practical lab sessions
14. Helps in organizing camps, open days, and other academic and extracurricular activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Power Systems, or equivalent.
Special Skills:
1. Can teach courses in the field of:
• Electric Machines
• Electric Drives
• Power Systems I/II
• Power Electronics I/II
• Design of Electrical Facilities
• Modelling and Control of Renewable Energy Systems
2. Fully aware of the safety rules for single/three phase labs
3. Familiar with current practices and future trends in renewable energies
4. Professional in using measuring equipment such as DMMS, OCRs, signal generators, and power spectrums
5. Can effectively use simulators, such as Multisim, MATLAB, Minitab, …etc.
6. Can also teach other basic courses, such as Electric Circuits and Electronics
7. Competent to pursue his postgraduate degree(s)
8. Has excellent written and spoken communication skills, both in Arabic and English (German is a plus)
