German International University Awards Full Scholarships to Highest Ranking Top Thanweya Amma Graduates

On Monday the 9th of September, 2019, the German International University (GIU) in the new administrative capital organized - under the auspices of Prof. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research - a grand celebration to honor the highest ranking Top Thaweya Amma students and hand over to them their full scholarships. The celebration took place at El-Gomhorya Newspaper. H.E. Juluis Georg Luy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the GIU and former German Ambassador to Egypt gave the opening speech and welcomed the students and the attendees.

Mohamed El-Shennawy, Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education for International Relations and International Agreements, and Dr. Mohamed El-Tayeb, Assistant Minister and leaders of the Ministry of Higher Education attended the celebration among other eminent personalities and press representatives.
The university allocated full scholarships for the highest ranking Top Thanweya Amma students across Egypt, who added up to 34 students. The scholarships fully apply to these students throughout their educational years in the university until they earn their bachelor degrees in any of the following faculties: Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Informatics and Computer Science, Faculty of Business Administration and Faculty of Design.
German International University (GIU) President Prof. Dr. Matthias Knaut expressed on an earlier note his happiness as Youssef Ehab Althamis, a ‘Thanweyya Amma’ top student, joined GIU Faculty of Engineering within the framework of this full scholarships’ program.

President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi travelled to Germany for a four-day official visit last October with a high-level delegation of Egyptian officials. H.E. met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in the frame of cooperation between the two countries. 
In the frame of the visit, a number of many successful bilateral agreements were concluded. These agreements were related to economic cooperation, higher education, professional training, and the competitiveness of Egyptian industry and exports.

In the frame of the President El Sisi’s visit to Germany, a second agreement to establish the German International University (GIU) in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital was also signed between Egyptian Higher Education Minister Prof Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and representatives of the consortium of the ten largest German applied sciences’ universities, also the German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD, witnessed the contract.

Feb 3rd 2019: Laying of the Foundation Stone Ceremony in Egypt

On February 3rd 2019, the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research H.E. Prof Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and the German Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy H.E. Mr. Peter Altmaier will lay the foundation stone of the German International University (GIU) together with the founding German universities presidents.

Ministers from Egypt, the German Ambassador to Egypt Mr. Georg Luy, Deputy General Secretary of DAAD Dr. Christian Müller, the Director of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Office in Egypt Mrs. Isabell Mering, representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Higher Education from both nations Egypt and Germany, in addition to a big economic delegation from Germany – more than 100 German personalities - along with members of the media and the press will be all witnessing this historical moment.
As applied universities are an important type of the German Higher Education System, they are considered one of the important pillars of the German higher education together with research universities with a strong focus on practical oriented teaching and research applications. Now, Egypt will be the only country all over the world which will have the two pillars of German higher education, where offering both models to Egyptian students through the GIUAS and the GUC signifies a long tradition of close and extensive cooperation between the two nations and reflects the success of their first collaboration in the GUC which is Germany’s largest and biggest transnational educational project outside German borders that represents 42% of its total student body on worldwide.
 
The German International University (GIU) is to offer “Made in Germany” university bachelor, master’s and PhD degree programs. Egyptian, Arab and African students will learn the German “do how know how” through future-oriented curricula that focus on practical applications to prepare graduates to the international industry and global employability through its various faculties of:
