Grundsteinlegung Die „German International University of Applied Science“ entsteht mit Ulmer Unterstützung

Ulm. Bei der Grundsteinlegung für die „German International University of Applied Sciences“ (GIU AS) nahe Kairo vor wenigen Tagen waren Vertreter der Hochschule Ulm mit von der Partie, teilt die Hochschule mit. Zur Zeremonie kam auch Bundeswirtschaftsminister Peter Altmaier. Die GIU AS wird die erste Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften in Afrika sein. Die Abschlüsse sollen nach deutschen Standards vergeben werden. Die Hochschule Ulm ist im Konsortium der Gründungshochschulen der GIU AS vertreten. Die Fakultät Informatik arbeitet daran, dort den Stundiengang Computer Science aufzubauen. Vorlesungen sollen Anfang 2020 starten.

New Milestone in the Higher Education Cooperation Between Egypt and Germany

President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi’s Visit to Germany, 28th till 31st October 2018

President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi travelled to Germany for a four-day official visit last October with a high-level delegation of Egyptian officials. H.E. met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in the frame of cooperation between the two countries.

In the frame of the visit, a number of many successful bilateral agreements were concluded. These agreements were related to economic cooperation, higher education, professional training, and the competitiveness of Egyptian industry and exports.
 
Joint Declaration of Intent signed by the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research H.E. Prof Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and the German Federal Minister of Education and Research Anja Karliczek
 
In the frame of cultural cooperation in the educational field, a joint declaration of intent was signed between the two Governments of Egypt and Germany represented by the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research H.E. Prof Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and the German Federal Minister of Education and Research Anja Karliczek. This comprehensive joint initiative is aiming at strengthening collaboration in higher education, technological development and scientific research. Furthermore, both countries are targeting through this declaration to jointly create training and development programs as well as establishing German educational institutions that can contribute to their welfare, advancement of sciences and economic prosperity in the field of industrial and applied higher education.
 

Agreement between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and a Consortium of German Applied Universities  to establish the German International University of Applied Sciences (GIU AS) in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital

 
In the frame of the President El Sisi’s visit to Germany, a second agreement to establish the German International University of Applied Sciences (GIU AS) in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital was also signed between Egyptian Higher Education Minister Prof Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and representatives of the consortium of the ten largest German applied sciences’ universities, also the German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD, witnessed the contract.

Feb 3rd 2019: Laying of the Foundation Stone Ceremony in Egypt

On February 3rd 2019, the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research H.E. Prof Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and the German Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy H.E. Mr. Peter Altmaier will lay the foundation stone of the German International University of Applied Sciences (GIU AS) together with the founding German universities presidents.
 
Ministers from Egypt, the German Ambassador to Egypt Mr. Georg Luy, Deputy General Secretary of DAAD Dr. Christian Müller, the Director of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Office in Egypt Mrs. Isabell Mering, representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Higher Education from both nations Egypt and Germany, in addition to a big economic delegation from Germany – more than 100 German personalities - along with members of the media and the press will be all witnessing this historical moment.

As applied universities are an important type of the German Higher Education System, they are considered one of the important pillars of the German higher education together with research universities with a strong focus on practical oriented teaching and research applications. Now, Egypt will be the only country all over the world which will have the two pillars of German higher education, where offering both models to Egyptian students through the GIUAS and the GUC signifies a long tradition of close and extensive cooperation between the two nations and reflects the success of their first collaboration in the GUC which is Germany’s largest and biggest transnational educational project outside German borders that represents 42% of its total student body on worldwide.
 
The German International University of Applied Universities (GIU AS) is to offer “Made in Germany” university bachelor and master’s degree programs that qualify to PhD. Egyptian, Arab and African students will learn the German “do how know how” through future-oriented curricula that focus on practical applications to prepare graduates to the international industry and global employability through its various faculties of:
