The Faculty of Engineering - Pharmaceutical Engineering and Technology invites applications for the following position effective September 2022.

Job profile:

We are looking for candidates with academic and professional expertise in one or more of the areas of Pharmaceutical Engineering including: Pharmaceutical Engineering / Chemical and Process Engineering / Bioprocess Engineering.


Candidates should hold a PhD or Doctorate from recognized universities with working experience (at least 3 years) in a related discipline.


Successful candidates are expected to
• Have experience in leading and teaching course units on fundamentals of process/ chemical engineering (including developing and delivering teaching material and assessment).
• Develop, supervise and manage lab experiments in chemical and pharmaceutical engineering.
• Supervise undergraduate design projects in Pharmaceutical Engineering.
• Be proficient in the use of process design and simulation software such as Aspen Hysys and other scientific software such as Matlab, and their use in teaching and supervision.
• Supervise undergraduate research projects.
• Teach and supervise graduate students in Pharmaceutical Engineering.
• Be able to develop new course units for the discipline of Pharmaceutical Engineering.
• Have high capacity to develop pedagogical innovations and to manage a study program.
• Be committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching of various course units in the discipline of Pharmaceutical Engineering.
• Contribute to administrative tasks in the department.


Candidates should have
• The capability of initiating and acquiring funding for academic research.
• Experience in leading a research group and supervising Master and Ph.D. students.
• The capability to work in collaborative research and that of an interdisciplinary nature.
• Track record of successful supervision of graduate students and researchers.

Additional requirements:

• Excellent communication skills (oral, written, presentation).
• Proficiency in English (oral and written).
• Awareness of and adherence to relevant health and safety requirements.
Preference will be given to candidates who have industrial work experience in the pharmaceutical Industry.
